  • A Happy Colon

    September 18, 2009

As the legend goes, The King died with 40 lbs of feces left inside of his colon.  This brings me to the point....People please keep your pipes fresh.  As we get older and live faster lives, it is vital that we cleanse our colons' at least once a month.  That will keep fecal matter from caking up on the walls of our intestines and possibly providing the setting for cancer and other diseases of that area.  Thank you.

  • The Game: Wall Street

    September 11, 2009

This picture was taken of me when I (The Med) was in the 10th grade.  I have been dabbling in Wall Street now for some time as either a watcher or a performer and I definitely consider it a hobby.  I liken it to basketball which is a past time I partake in regularly, in the way you have to not only use knowledge and decision making, but you also have to maintain a sense of composure.  I reccommend you all to look at the market for at least one week faithfully just to see how addicting this game can become and even invest a couple bucks.  If you get a little positive coin, just hold me down with a fish dinner or something.

  • Come Fly with Us

    July 14, 2009

So here we are at a Gatorade x St Alfred's event to honor Michael Jordan's induction into the NBA Hall of Fame.  It was dope! They showed vintage Jordan highlights, games, dunk contest, etc, and gave out free commerative Gatorade and free EATS.  They even had Biz Markie on the 1's and 2's.  What was crazy though is that DJ Reality (pictured in the center) end up winning tickets, all expenses paid, to go to the Hall of Fame ceremony in September.  Lucky huh? What's even crazier is that he called it and sure enough did win.  Shout outs to DJ Reality, St. Alfred's and the mini-hamburgers they gave out that gave me the revenge of moctezuma later on in the evening.  Peace!

  • Happy Fathers Day

    June 22, 2009

Nope no picture today, just notice my words. Yesterday was Fathers Day and we failed to put up a post for honoring the fathers in the world that do their job and actually hold together a lot of what occurs in a positive way. Its always so easy to forget the fathers, and I'm not exactly sure, but I'm sure its somewhere in the realm of the fact that no matter what, we always have our moms. Regardless to a good or bad situation its always "mommas baby, daddy's maybe" and I think fathers accept that because they know how close they were or are to their mothers. Though at the same time, a lot of men out there, here, and everywhere do the most and always get the least credit. So I wanna thank God for the slide I rode in on to get into the world and thank my dad for the lessons he instilled into me, and the tools that he left for me to bide by. It definitely caused me to grow up very different than the other kids and the way he taught me to respect everything worth respecting DEFINITELY made me miss out on some women in life, but I feel I have a great balance of teaching, and then that gelled with my life experience. Happy Fathers day to all fathers no matter how bad they are because although they aren't always prepared, none of us would be here without them.

  • The Next II

    May 13, 2009

I didn’t know you had to have a shape up, or work out to get cut up. I just thought you had to be nicer than everybody else.

That is what Joell Ortiz said in an interview with Hot 97 radio personality Dj FunkMaster Flex. Dude is a problem when he touches the mic. He just GET’S BUSY (I had to capitalize that) cause I haven’t heard a wack verse, a wack record just that john blaze heat. I remember first hearing about Joell when he dropped the mixtape WHO THE $^%K IS JOELL ORTIZ? I was a faithful fan of the mixtape circuit back then. Now you have to know the importance when it comes with buying a mixtape from an up and coming artist. I have always copped the underdogs mixtapes. Now have I had some disappointments? Sure, but I wouldn’t be doing this blog about Mr. Ortiz if I was disappointed.
Was I disappointed that he asked to be release from Aftermath/Interscope? Yes! It was really from a fan perceptive cause, envision what could have happen with Dr. Dre beats and the kid from Cooper Street projects lyrics I call that a mean cuisine. But was I surprise he asked. No! Not at all... You have Em, 50 & Dre in that releasing order when you sign the deal the card were already stacked against him. Can we wait?
No there is no way we can wait that long for Joell Oritz to give us the LP. A Free Agent and I would want him on my squad… Defjam, Atlantic, Warner Bros & Universal how about you all?

  • Mothers Day

    May 10, 2009

Anyone that knows me knows that I am extremely close to my mother and as a unit, we are ALL close to our mothers as I pray you are close to yours as not everyone is blessed with the experience to be in such a situation. Seeing situations where its not a good look makes me especially appreciate my situation with my mother...real talk thats my heart and its not enough talk in the world to allow me to ever deny that. Throughout my life I have seen great mothers put their practice into play and my business partners all have great mothers and its thoroughly displayed in the way they've raised their sons also know as my brothers. Today someone tried to tell me my brothers were not my brothers..needless to say that me and that person have nothing else to speak on because how could you deny our resemblance?! Happy Mothers day to Mrs. Williamson, Ms. Barnwell, Ms. Carter, and Ms. Hall!!!! When we bring the 'gold' home we will rotate it from each of your mantles to show our appreciation!! Also to Rebecca Wright Johnson, Christina Stevens, Josephine Curtis, Vondra Rincher, Brandi Garland, Leah Powell, Tyeisha Lindsay, and any other mother I may have accidently forgotten, Happy Mothers day from Thee Ambassador, The Med, 520-570, and Now Playing and the whole foundation of Pangea. May you be blessed as we acknowledge you, and even more so when we don't..and especially when we don't listen!!

  • Zip Car

    April 27, 2009

Chicago please help me, in welcoming...THE ZIP CAR!!!! Zipcar.com is a pretty dandy concept that was recently brought to Chicago which basically adds to the public transportation model by giving you an actual vehicle to use in addition to the buses and trains here in Chicago and come August, I will be very happy that this has come here. As you all know, in 2009, PRSVR will be launching The Coalition so that means its time to take this smoke and mirros Big Willie (I prefer you call me William) lifestlye tone down a bit so we can make sure this works!! Trust indeed, the gear will still be notch top, BUT you MIGHT see me on a train or two near you!! Maybe I can get them to get some bigger cars because all of the Zipcar.com cars I have seen have been like Mazda 323's or smaller!! I'ma need you all to get the Ambassador Benz, or even a Benz between 520-570....I think its at a 550 on the new ones, or get The Med Maybach..thats the 57 right? As long as we are Now Playing with something better than that 626 you got 40 of parked in your lots. I'm thinking you cut us a check and let us champion this here branch in Chicago. I can take it from here.

  • Before the Internet

    April 21, 2009

Could you imagine searching for hotels, or finding directions, or trying to find the least expensive flight for an emergency trip you had to make? What if you went out of the country and couldn't look up any places to visit so all you had to go off of was something you saw on TV? Would you really know how to experiment on how to cook Mahi Mahi without a recipe? We would be crazily dependent upon word of mouth, big mama, an Atlas, and Bill Murray movies to teach us where to travel to!! As far out as that seems, 12 years ago, we weren't as dependent upon it like we are now. This has created some lazy people...and I am one of them!! lol... I used to be pretty handy just thru experimentation. Now, I go directly to google.com and type in a few key words to my problem and they let me know exactly what to do to fix it!! Its like MAGIC!! lol. At the same time, I think it takes away some of the fun of getting things figured out on your own or seeing how word travels. Like how to beat Mike Tyson in Punchout, or the code to for CONTRA (Up-Up-Down-Down-Left-Right-

Left-Right, B, A, SELECT, Start). And now with the evolution of APPs on the iphone, you REALLY don't have to do too much aside from keeping your battery charged up, and I can barely do that at most times..lol..ahhhhhhh the good old days!!

  • Tekh Togo Interview pt. 1

    April 6, 2009

Today I am going to shed some light upon a very influential facet of our Pangea Movement, and PRSVR Brand by interviewing Tekh Togo. With this interview, I didn't prepare any questions beforehand. Not only because I have been busy, but mainly because the best situations within Pangea Estates occur on the fly and without real calculation but authentic direction. I asked questions that I as an individual would like to know about Togo Onasis aka Togo Speilberg aka The Chancellor aka The Technician aka The Narrator of Crumbs and now known to you as Tekh Togo

What would you like to start off with? What is Tekh Togo exactly? Where would you like to begin your story Tekh?

Well I will get into the name. A lot of people ask where I get the the name from. Well I started off in my artistry as The Technician. So even then, people would call me Tech for short within my camp and out within the city. So Tekh, thats simple and plain. The Togo part, was from this cat his name is Duke Togo from this Japanimation flick from back in the day Gogo 13. It was also a cheesy video game on Nintendo too back in the day as well. "Yea!! He had like the green or purple suit on!!!" Yea..He was an ill cat though. I feel like the way he maneuvered was like an iller james bond. Like he don't get caught up on all the bs like bond did.. like he still smashed buns and gets it in, but he doesn't get caught up in the buns. Duke Togo wasn't like that. like bond would get caught up in it, and be up in the room and then have to blow out.  Togo took care of that and kept it moving and quiet as kept he did a lot of damage. So i felt like he was just a cool dude, and i'm laid back so i put all that into my character and into the raps..like thats tekh togo. Cats is gettting assassinated...easy in the raps. Like this man merked me so smooth ima just die right here..im not even gonna cause a commotion. Im just gonna bow out and die..so thats what it is

Going from tech to tekh what made you change

I can't even call it..i mean..you know when like other rappers just may feel you need a change or pull out something that may intrigue you or like how that sounds. Its really nothing all that complex to it. like at times rappers have a thousand different names and then you get to something that just sticks to you, and you run with it. Tekh Togo was that for me. When its you its you, and you just roll with it. But even when I was The Technician, like that name was derived from when I was part of the MADD Squad (shout out to the madd team) I was the cat that like did the beats, and messed with the boards, and studied the compressors and mic pre amps. Nobody else knew the lingo in the studio, so that even is where The Technician came from.

Being from Grand Rapids Michigan, what was like your influence for even wanting to rap? Like i know you are an artist period which is likely my biggest admiration of you is that you are a true artist..what made you channel that energy into the music?

Well we grew up on hip hop, so I was an artist...and I am still an artist..like I still draw, but back then, we used to freestyle and everything just being around the influence of hip hop and the rapping was just an expansion of the art. I had to have been in high school at the time or maybe after that I can't recall, but when Souls of Mischief first came out, that was like when I started writing THEIR lyrics down and telling myself "I HAVE TO LEARN THIS." That was like the time back then like when I was younger I used to put the headphone jack into the auxilary joint and mimic the lyrics and create my own raps even back then. Like listening to Eazy E, or Slick Rick back when I was a shorty and going into that zone like even back then. BUt when that SOM came out, and just being able to see that and like how their style was different, it was ill, and to me it was crazy, but at that point like i got into it and seeing whats good with other cats, and really trying to rhyme and testing my skills to see if I could do this. I definitely give cfedit to them..i was in that WU era.

Within that, you are a very laid back ind, but when did you realize that this is what you were going to do? Like even if it takes you 20 years, this is what im gonna do?

Its like i'm laid back, and i'm quiet, but I am naturally entertaining...lol..like i am never nervous on stage, or butterflies or anything. Like some people just naturally go in. And thats my chamber...I can channel it on and off.

You are the cat in GR who everybodys big brother listened to..how do you feel about your body of work and your output to date?

Its just now coming up to speed. Its been there. its a lot of work in the archives, and I feel like its that time where we can bring it back to where it should have been even awhile back. Like now, its people that know me in GR and that was surprising because people have really embraced the music and what I am trying to do here whereas I felt that they didn't, or wouldn't know. Its definitely time to expand that though.

To date, whats the one song that you be like thats the dopest song I have ever made?

It doesn't exist...lol..Not that I don't like my music, but every day my favorite song I have made changes everyday. I may tell you Flying Saucers today, and Ill Pictures tomorrow, but when I go to the studio next week, I may say that song, so I stopped commenting on things like that about a year ago.

Whats a song that you've heard and been around, and wished you had been around for that creative process or in that studio session?

Man...I wish I was bouncing around in studios when like Illmatic was being made, like during his whole era, or during the WU prominent era. That whole era of 94-98 I wish I was bouncing around in that era.

Within your creative process, what does it consist of if you have one?

Man...wake up early..first get up, seems like the mind is fresh. Hopefully you get a lotta good rest. Thoughts is coming thru..a lotta times, like Im not gonna get on my Hov and say I memorize a song right there, but a lot of thoughts or bars will come to my mind, and in my head i formulate how I can put it together and it'll get written down later like yea...i'ma say that. But what a lot of rappers will tell you, its hard to find inspiration a lot of times because it's not a lot of great music to go to for it right now. So a lot of times, you will have to force yourself and sit yourself down and saying I am going to listen to this beat and I am not going to move and just zone out. At times, cats will tell themselves "i'm not feeling it right now" so they will go back to it later, but at times it takes the discipline to really just sit down with it and see what comes of it.

You did mention that their is not a lot of great music out there in this era. Is their anyone that you have heard that you like and can gain insight from?

Ummmm....the last time I came up here with ya'll we were listening to that Jay Electronica..i heard that and was like yea...He sounds like he's got his own planet. So yea...Jay Electronica

You have done several projects now that have gotten nothing short of great reviews ie The Collection, and The Crumbs Project. What more do you feel needs to be done as an artist in order for you to be in a position where the work isn't all for free anymore?

Well once people like your material, but once that time comes, they will let you know. I feel once we have flooded an area with quality music repeatedly, it will get to a point where people are beyond happy to support the art and they feel they want to have it. They are getting something they want for their money which makes it a fair exchange. They are using their money for something that they want and it makes it an even trade off.

What form of art best expresses Tekh Togo?

Black and White. I love how Ansel Adams does his thing...like I wish I could live in black and white...for some reason I like Black and White almost more than color...like I'ma find a plasma that shows the picture in Black and White..no settings changed, just came that way!!

You are an avid admirer of Ralph Lauren, namely Polo with hints into the Purple and Black Labels, but what is it about Polo that leads you so far into it?

Its like, Its classic, so I love pieces that never go out of style..Like I never was trendy...like maybe one or two times I fell into a trend, looking stupid in the pic like damn..i DID do that! But other than that, i never got into USED Jeans or Cross Colours, I was always on to something that I could wear 10 years down the line and still look fresh. With Ralphy its like Its always classic garments, not too gawdy, and the items that are gawdy, I still like and can deal with. But personally, the catalog has been slipping so it comes in handy that Ralphy has a style that is timeless and can still resonate in its current state.

  • PRSVR and Niles Interview Part 3

    March 28, 2009

For those catching the tale end of the interview, we've been delving into the world of Niles a "Brooklyn by way of Lansing" emcee who we honestly believe will make a difference in the culture. Click here for Parts 1 and 2

What prompted the name change? Do you think it will cause some confusion?

Well, my name was Alias. When I won the talent search. I had a talk with my homie Kay who was part of the talent search panel and the head of Razzleberry Productions which is a production company that I’m affiliated with.  We talked about the possibility of a name change.  I had the %100 freedom to choose the name.  It was just time for a change, I was stepping into a new frontier, plus, “Alias” was already taken by a couple of emcees and rock and roll artists that had the rights to it. At first they thought my government name “Chadwick” would be fly. I’m like nah, but it does look slick on a resume. Anyways, I couldn’t really think of a name.  I talked to mad people and the names they came up with didn’t embody what I wanted. Every single thing that I do with this has to be calculated, even down to the name.  So I just let time float naturally and when the feeling comes along it will let me know. So one day I got a call from Kay and he told me he had thought of some names that fit my aura. The first name was “Water”, I was like nah. The second one was “Niles”. No lie, right when I heard him say that it was a wrap. That was it. I didn’t let him know because I wanted it to sink in still. So I’m thinking “That name sounds fly, and I’ve always been connected with the Nile River and it’s significance all my life. The next day I hit money up like “That’s the one. Let’s go.”

Then as time went on, more meanings behind the name came to mind. The Nile River is in Africa, my ancestors are from Africa. The Nile River flows upstream in an unorthodox way. I’m flowing upstream in life in a away that is unorthodox. The Nile River has always been a main provider for the people in terms of the clean water, and the fertile ground that surrounds it. I am a leader and a main provider for anybody who comes in contact with me. I have always had an affinity with ancient Egyptian society. The herioglyphics, the sarcophaguses, all of the sacred kings and queens, the pyramids, everything about it is a wonder that really intrigues me. It’s so euphoric, and to know that they had a spiritual connection to the Nile along with their whole ways of life revolving around the Nile is the icing on the cake. The “s” at the end is for style. Some call me “Niles Davis”, I’m not one to have anything affiliated with someone else, but Miles Davis is an idol of mine. So I’ll take it, ha. And there it is. It won’t cause confusion because for the people that knew me before the name change , now they know the story. The world will be introduced to Niles, then when they trace my history it will add more to the whole connection.

Explain your thoughts behind your single "This Time" with E1 (formely Koch Records) which is on the airwaves now?

Well, I was going through a lot when I wrote that song. My music is a movie of my direct joy and pain and that’s what the song is about. It’s about the mind state of the driven dreamchaser. That person who doesn’t settle for less and wants to be something, wants to be somebody in life and they want to do it the right way with no behind the curtain shortcuts. But at the same time it is so many challenges in his/her way and it seems like everybody is making it but them. That outsider who took the slower route. That dude who isn’t a player, who really wants to be in love with a respectable woman but he can’t find her because of all of the madness out there. That song is the therapy for those people and an education class to the people who try to hide those emotions. It’s telling all of you that patience is a virtue. It’s not easy to find that woman that is a queen inside and out, it’s not easy to reach your long term dreams and goals, it’s not easy to get to college let alone graduate, that is why you have to be patient. You can build for 20 years and have it tumbling down in 20 minutes.  Knowing that will make current impatient vibes easier to deal with. It’s the pessimistic mind versus the optimistic mind. But in the end, patience prevails. The song is like a convo  between 2 people about real issues. One is down and the other is trying to bring him up. And as people listen, they can see themselves in those situations, and the advice given in the song, they can use in real-life. Two things all humans have in common is pain and wanting to succeed. That’s what the song is about.

Have you ever felt like you had to simplify or dumb down your music in order to get acceptance?

Not at all, if you are a true artist, you  will know how to shake shift and formulate to whatever environment your craft visits. From the grimey hoods in the US, to the suburbs of Germany, to the villages of Bangladesh, to the cities of Africa, to the neighborhoods of Greenland, I have to make that universal language that they all can understand. I can’t be artistically stingy, meaning everybody has to enter my mind. But I can’t be artistically lenient meaning I have to step past that line. It’s 50, 50. And either you got it or you don’t. I can’t explain it. Like, I don’t limit how I think I can do by what others think I can do. When they look at me all they see is a mortal man, the mind and soul is beyond. I don’t look at the industry from the scope of a lot of people. If my being stands with the creator of the universe, man can’t stop me. I do believe in being original. It’s only one me. I will never be anyone else ever. And the same goes for you. There will never be another you. And it’s not about being “different”, a lot of people fake being different just to try to stand out. But guess what, they never had it in the first place and in time, they fade.  It’s about tapping into your being and pulling out as much light as possible. Then you expose that to the world. It’s about being bold enough to be yourself in the face of army’s that are doing the opposite. In the end, they become fighters for you because you helped them find their selves. Few are chosen, and I understand that. That’s why every artist that ever did music isn’t remembered. It’s like a pyramid, the bottom is broad, but the closer to the top the more steep it gets to the 1 point at the top. It’s a mixture of a lot of things you have to earn, key word, earn. You earn the emceeing jewel, you earn the true artist jewel. You just don’t pick up a mic like “I want to rap” or “I want to sing”. Time and reality will scold you. It’s about faith. If you have maximum faith in yourself, confidence that exceeds eternity, but humility that even exceeds that, you are on your way. That’s the only way I can describe it.

If you could have lunch with three people alive or dead who would be your guests?

God the Father, God the son, and God the holy spirit.

A lot of artist have moved away from doing mixtapes via an actual disc. They are releasing them free online. Have you decided to try to get the music to the masses that way?

The bottom line is this and it has always been this way. If people respect it, they will buy it. So if people get my music for free it doesn’t worry me.  Because I have to spark that blue flame in them that makes them think “I just have to buy this”, “I just have to support this brother, he touched my life”. We are in the digital age, as much as people can download free music on the net, they can pay for music on the net with a credit card. Recession or no recession, if you are making timeless magic, the people will be more than happy to support you. I was a fan before I was an artist. And I’m still a fan. To this day, if an artist that I fully respect drops an album, I’m copping on that same exact day. Since I’m a fan, I have to tap into other fans when I’m in artist mode. Being sincere with the listener, opening up my life for them to explore and take whatever with them when they leave. But I’ll do music on disc too. As much as we’re leading into the digital world, the analog world was the formula we built this on. What about when you do a show and afterwards, a crowd of people want to by your cd? You better have some ready to go, or you’ll be a digital genius fool with negative 200 dollars in your pocket.

Fashion has always been a large part of hip-hop, how would you describe your style. What's your number 1 fashion rule?

My number 1 fashion rule is wear your imagination and take notes from Miles Davis and Jimi Hendrix dress code. My style is heaven dipped in paradise sprinkled with the thoughts Fela Kuti had when he was writing “Water No Get Enemy”.

If Niles had the ability to do a song with three other emcees, who would be your top pick?

The whole era  of legends from 78’ to 84’, 84’ to 91’ and 91’ to 97’. Line them all up and tell them to meet me at the studio. I’ll give them “thank you for paving the way” cards on the way out of the booth.

What can we expect from Niles this year?

Expect years to be added to your lives my people.

We here at PRSVR thank you for your time Niles and we also thank our fans of the like.

  • PRSVR and Niles Interview Part 2

    March 26, 2009

Welcome back fans from both sides!! We are happy to bring you the second installment of the Niles interview directly from the man himself.

How has your music been embraced by the East Coast?

It has been embraced with open arms. NYC is the art capital of the universe and it shows in how the people respect craft. With this place being the birthplace of hiphop, it will always have an essence to it that makes the people look for the origin and even though I’m an emcee in the modern day, my whole musical being is to represent the origin of this. But it goes back to black music ingeneral that I’m representing. Poetry birthed beebop –jazz birthed rhythm and blues birthed rock and roll birthed funk birthed  hip-hop. I represent all of those rich artforms of black culture. When it is something I’m passionate about, even though I’m a modern day version of it, I always have the origin of it in mind 24/7. This goes beyond music. I am a firm advocate of history. I will always owe my whole musical life to the forefathers of hiphop and before.  My ethnic life to my ancestors and the people who died to make the road for me to walk in. And my spiritual life to Jesus and so on. So in the music realm, me representing the original essence in the place where it was birthed, automatically equals %100 respect. The east coast has always been in the back of my mind growing up. The style, the culture, the melting pot aspect.  The whole tri-state has the whole world in it. You meet people from all around the planet. I’ve enjoyed myself and the society. And they’ve showed nothing but deep love for me. Much respect. This has nothing to do with the question but I love when a woman loves my music knowing that I didn’t change my style to make her like it. When a woman loves your artform it’s an amazing vibe it creates. Peace to the beautiful ladies in the world.

What’s the story behind the name Niles?

He was birthed as Alias then he formulated into a river in human form… . (To be continued later in the interview).

Who were some of your influences growing up?

That’s one of those questions that will have me talking forever. Man, wow. Miles Davis, John Lennon, Bruce Lee, so many trendsetters. My uncle Shelton was just a smooth playa intellect. He’s that one uncle you have that you and all of your cousins as kids wanted to be like when you grow up. Man, I came up in the 80’s and 90’s. Remember Atlantic Star? They made the soundtrack to my childhood and shit,  anyways, my older brother Sebastian is the illest painter you’d ever come across. His water and oil paintings will stick in my head forever.  When I was heavy into drawing he was my idol. Alright lets get back to music. The whole bebop era I hold very close. Cats in the 40’s and 50’s was classy jazzy. Part of my style comes from that era.  Just being a smooth king  you know. My pops, Sam Gill, is a bass player who was a major contributor to that era. We need to bring Jazz back into public schools. It’s an integral part of not just black history but American history. Alright, hip-hop wise? Man, first and foremost. Jay-Dee, J-Dilla is the best producer to ever step foot on soil. The man was just a genius in every sense of the word. His music takes you to places beyond Earth. I swear I almost have his whole catalogue. I was saying he was the greatest way before he passed.  I’ll make sure I bring him up as much as possible because the world needs to know. Rest in Peace my brother. I hope and pray that his estate gets fixed, ain’t no way they should be doing his people like that. They should get %100 of the proceeds. My bad, I just get passionate about stuff like that. God bless Dilla’s mother and family. Nas is my favorite emcee ever. At times it’s like he’s watching a movie flick of how I think, and he writes about it. That’s how much I can relate with his joints. He is sincere and does this to be great, not just for sport. Common is a true poet. Much respect. Andre 3000 has never spit a wack verse, he is the most careful writer as an mc I swear. Big L was just live with it. God bless his soul. When Canibus was on the mixtape scene heavy in the mid 90’s I have never seen people react to an emcee like they did with him. He used to say stuff that made people think he was an alien. Like, “He said what?” Dude made everybody go back to the lab. The Wu-Tang, we’re going to have to do a full interview just about how much I dig the Wu. All of them are God’s of hiphop. Gangstarr’s “Moment of Truth” changed my life. That is my favorite album ever. Thanks Guru and Primo. On above the clouds Guru said “Word to the father and mother earth/seeking ever lasting life through this hell for what it’s worth.” That’s one of the most heartfelt lines  I ever heard. Slum Village is my favorite group, I have all of their stuff, from Fantastic Vol. 1, and 2 to all of the unreleased jawns. The Roots ofcourse, Illadelph Halflife was an easy classic. Like, the early 90’s up to 98 was so fly. Not just with music, but in general. You had Yo MTV Rap’s, Martin, Fresh Prince, R&B was, man look.  I am priveledged to come up in that era. Everybody who contributed to my musical memories I want to thank you. From Zhane’ to A Tribe Called Quest. The memories will always replay in my mind.

If you had to highlight a few emcees who may or may not get the light they deserve who would they be?

I’m going to name some cats that y’all may or may not have heard of, either way, these dudes were and are sick to me. Killah Sin from Killarmy, man, that dude is a very special emcee.  I used to look forward to hearing him on every song he was on. Guru from Gangstarr is live.  Black thought and Malik B is a sick 1, 2 punch.  If you never heard “Step into the Realm” by the Roots, do it after you read this interview and you’ll see. M.O.P always gets live. J-Dilla was a very dope emcee, too. His style was extremely original. Elzhi, Royce Da 5’9. His song “King of Kings” is just poetry on an ancient mastered level, he said “The last grand wizard slash serial bomber”.  There was this mc named 9 that was bubbling in the 90’s. He had this album called “Cloud 9”, the jawn was a classic. Much respect to him. This one cat named “E-Rule” out of Cali is insane he had this dope single called “Listen Up”. No lie, it came out when I was in 6th grade . My older brother had this tape where he recorded some very live cuts off the radio on. That’s when you put paper towel in the holes of the tape. True heads know exactly what I’m talking about. I’ve been looking for the song and couldn’t find the joint until my 10th grade year. Fam, I kept playing and rewinding that track and memorized it after playing and rewinding it for 5 hours straight. That’s how much I dug it.Breezely Brewin’ from Prince Paul’s “Prince of Thieves” is crazy nice. Queen Herawin from the Juggaknots is my favorite female emcee. O.C’s album “Jewels’’ will always be one of my favorites. Cee-lo Green is insane on the mic, and he made “St Elsewhere”? That album blew my mind. I don’t want to leave anybody out but we got to get to the next question.

Great material man!!! We have a few more questions that we would like to pose and we can wrap this up.

Niles fans will have to hold tight!!

  • Hip Hop Appreciation: Producers

    March 24, 2009

A very large and needed part of the world of music and hip hop is the role of the producer. So many to be named from Pete Rock, so Just Blaze, to Kanye West, to MF DOOM, to Madlib, The Rza, DJ Premier, Dr. Dre, Black Milk, Rick Rubin, Timbaland, The Neptunes, The Trackmasters, Q-Tip, Tekh Togo, Don Canon, NO I.D., Jay Electronica, Akon, Fat Jon, The Alchemist, and one of my favorites, the Great Late J Dilla. I remember reading where House Shoes was talking about how Dilla could duplicate any sound but the way Dilla worked and made his sound, you couldn't duplicate. You can't really notice how dope he did what he was doing unless you listen to the records in which he chopped up to end up at the final result which is what we hear. He would change records tones and minors and stretch out words to make them sound like other words and really perform acrobatics over tracks. General principles weren't followed by J Dilla and a lot of that has to do with the fact that his process was a horrible one. lol....Like the way Dilla produced was beyond self taught and he made it work. The tempo was always off and the samples were chopped "wrong" and the way his drums came to be, just all of it would confuse anyone that wanted to learn how to produce. To Dilla it was more than going to get a Presonus ACP88 compressor and get busy...it was about creating classic work that had his sound. And it always has. This is one of the only people I have ever encountered that loved liked jewelry, but just wanted to sit inside and work all day. I love the work he gave us, and also the work that I am still coming across to this day...freaking awesome!!

    Plastic Cups Up!!

I used to hate when producers sampled but this was during the Puff era where the songs weren't even touched, they just played the record and literally sampled the whole thing. No chops, or loops, or adding strings, but from watching producers like Just Blaze, who is honestly extremely underrated work and make an authentic sound, it shows that the sample is like the cement you lay to build the house upon and Just really goes into his craft and doesn't always sample but when he does, you don't know it off the top because he digs for records crazily, Pete Rock the same. They build around the sample but its more to it than just the sample. That I can respect.

    Who is your favorite producer?

  • PRSVR and Niles Interview Part 1

    March 24, 2009

Chadwick Phillips is in mid-town Manhattan in heavy traffic “Is this James? “he says, talking over the horn that just blew in the background. “I’ll call you back cause you are not going to be able to hear nothing I’m saying.” He’s probably wishing his rap name Nile(s) could become this busy Manhattan street, so he can flow up stream to his safe heaven in Brooklyn.

You don’t know him yet, but soon he will be amongst the elite of his class. Who is in his class you say? Not the cliché rappers that are in the game.

“I’m not here to save Hip-Hop by any means,” [Niles says,] “but I am going to look in that mirror and ask myself what are you doing to keep the music alive? My fingerprints belong to me. I have to bring them in to what I’m about to do.”
Niles is in a great thought process when he begins to speak about his journey from Lansing, MI to New York, NY. “I moved to purse a career in music, film and education“he says. “I made an oath to myself, once I hit the ground in New York I was going to find a job and get my name out there.” “I was going to go to every cipher, open mic, freelance opportunity and show that I could display my talent,” Niles states. “You have to fight for every crumb out here and I wanted to do it all.”

Let's back up a bit, let's rewind to Michigan

What prompted you to move from Michigan?

The signs started to appear. All my life I wanted to see what NYC was like. When I’d see pictures of the city, hear about how it is, and see the range of art that it produced, it was intriguing. I had to experience life in this place. But I knew I had to have enough leverage to be comfortable while dreamchasing. So I gained as much insight as possible,  and got my Bachelors Degree from Michigan State University. When I graduated school that’s when the sign revealed it’s self. That was the last sentence of that chapter.  I needed a higher mountain to climb and NYC was the Himalayas. From the first time I started spitting, I used so much time alone sculpting my craft, and manifesting a style, and a mystique that is my own. Hip-hop was a part of my life on the minutely.  And right when I decided to take the art of emceeing seriously, it was no turning back. When I was 13 I had a vision that NYC would be the place it was all going to unfold at, and here we are.

What were some of the challenges in this transition and did any of these effect you creatively?

There definitely were some challenges. First of all, I moved to NYC prematurely.  My boy Jeff was working on Wall St. and he wanted to move away from the city in order to stack bread. It just so happens that when I  was ready to move, he was moving to Queens so the timing was right. But at the same time I was reluctant. One of the  trillion thoughts that ran through my mind was “I should stay in Lansing, get a job, stack paper,  and finish my album so I can arrive in the big apple with product ready to go”. But one day, me and Jeff had a long conversation about how in highschool, we always talked  about one day moving to NYC and making moves in a major way. And he reminded me of those convos, and it really made me think. Plus, sometimes when you are on the brink of a new frontier, the mist around you can get puzzling. Almost like it never will happen. So you have to respond off of reaction and not emotion in those situations or you never will do it. I had a long talk with my older brother Silas too and he told me it’s time. But my money was low, but having a roof over my head in Queens was enough to build on and worth the sacrifice. I took the Greyhound to NYC and my mind was like a kaleidoscope of confusion, excitement, anxiety, hypeness, confidence, etc. But then I prayed to God for 45 minutes straight, after that I felt an ease come across my soul. I just gave it to God to formulate for me and all I had to do was live.

To make a long story short, it has been triumphs, tragedies, curiosities of the future, doubt, thoughts of quitting, experiences that made me feel I made it, enduring challenge, heartaches, and the sweet taste of victory. Last year was the book of Job for me. I literally became Job and went from a world of stepping into my dream to a dark world of my faith being tested like never before in my life. I past the test and now I’m about to receive my 100 fold like Job did. One thing that I will say is there has never been a success story without the pathways of the darkside interfiering. My paintbrush went dry and the paint in the bucket disappeared. I couldn’t write anything and my mind was clouded. I couldn’t see my creative thoughts. But now that I made it out, those struggles truly are the reason for my glory. I’m willing to share the testimony with anybody. It will be therapy for them along with inspiration for them to keep pushing no matter what.

  • Where's 520-570

    March 23, 2009

Where's 520-570?? That's a good question, one that we even wish we could answer.

Every group, band, company etc... has a problem child. A person that creates bumps in the smooth lining of an organization. Perseverer consists of nothing but straight forward, loyal, honest, determined, focused individuals then there's 520-570, a person who's bout a readable as sandblasted grafitti. We wouldn't necessarily say that 520 is a problem child, but he most certainly isn't the easiest person to work with or understand at times. With his reserved demeanor paired with the drawing off of inspiration guiding his next move, he can be a piece of work to partner with.

We had every intention of partying up with that man at RRF this past Friday to just unwind from a busy work week and he was an utter no show. We've grown closer to understanding him over the years and we realize that he would rather be behind the scenes than in front, which we can respect.... I guess this is just something we have to deal with or not...

The above video illustrates...WAIT another no show!!! It can't be, say it ain't so...

Where's 520-570, you ask...? Your guess is probably just as good as ours...

  • Hip Hop Appreciation: Emcee

    March 12, 2009

Today we would like to highlight the emcee. The emcee holds a treasured stake in what we call Hip Hop, unfortunately fans of the culture have to look and know where to look for quality Hip Hop today. The above video features a close friend of Perseverer by the name of Niles formerly known as Alias. Simply put Niles GETS IT IN, Check the video if you don't believe us!!! We're sure you'll agree!! Hip Hop fans look no further!!

Niles represents many things, an emcee, a young man following a dream, a lover of Hip Hop and a visionary to name a few. To us and his growing fan base Niles is a perpetual reminder that what he does is an art form. We don't want to give away too much at this point, since we have an upcoming interview with Niles that we were honored to host.

  • Hip Hop Week: Kicks Edition

    March 10, 2009

Never have I exposed any of the pieces of my shoe collection..I mean I have a shoe coming out so I really solely only stand by my shoe which is the Coalition by PRSVR!! But moving on!! In hip hop, there is an unspoken but mentioned aspect of hip hop which is sneaker collecting. I even dabble in this aspect if you couldn't tell...I don't have the most pairs, but I think I have a few unique pieces. In this picture is what we in Pangea call 'Gucci 87' because it's a Gucci tennis shoe that released in '87/88. This shoe was popular amongst cats in the Hamptons down to (for lack of a more appropriate word) individuals in hip hop culture in the boroughs of New York. The shoe sold for about $500 and even to this day is a big ticket for a pair of sneakers.
Within my sneaker adventures, and my whole life, I like a good story! A chase! An adventure!! I don't care for going to eBay or just going to a store to get "exclusives" or what have you. With this pair I copped from a guy who went to a thrift store and found these brand new never worn never laced up and he didn't know what he had!! I was over there just looking at some vintage pieces and scoring leather and things of that sort and I saw them sitting over to the side and inquired. Now mind you, I had been looking for this shoe for a long time!! Since Raekwon mentioned it in his top ten sneakers listing in Complex and Biz Markie mentioned them and Jay Z emulated them within his S. Carter offereing years back...does ya research!! Like I said, I like a good story. I'd hate to have be asked "hey Brandon how'd you meet your wife?" and I say homeroom...LOL...I'd rather say we met on 5th ave and exchanged twitter profiles and she was a former model who came in and did all the makeup for our shoots and just always stayed cool and supportive and when the time was right, I knew that's what I wanted...or something like that...LOL...so what's your twitter profile?

  • Hip Hop Appreciation

    March 3, 2009

Peace!! I named the month of March as honorary Pangea Hip Hop Celebration month and just failed to mention it on the first as I have been ok what we call around here "the grind." In our celebration we will be highlighting what we like and influence within hip hop and what it means to us and put our own spin onto it and present it as pretty as rugged can be!!
In the image above it's showing one of the dopest aspects of hip hop because no matter what, if you weren't nice at it, you weren't getting a pass!! Their wasn't any down south breaking, or east coast breaking, or breaking on lean, it was either you are crazy nice!!! or just crazy. When most people think of breaking now people think of Nigel who is mad cool, or of the Jabbawockeez...now not taking anything away from these cats, but when I think of breakin' I think of Bobbito, or Turbo and Ozone, and for some reason I think Sho'Nuff would have been a dope B Boy!! Like I think he had enough flare in that character to really cause havoc for any competitor!! But I digress!! March is gonna be an exciting month!! We have A LOT to show you so please stay tuned...otherwise you won't know what's going on at the water collier the next day...or at the Estates!!

  • The Meetup

    Feb 19, 2009

Ok, so its 4:47 am and I am in rare form..this has been possibly the best week of 2009 and its only Wednesday so you can imagine how much work I've been doing..more on that in a later post that I may write tonight...but like I said, I'm in the zone!! I'm facebook chatting with my bro Noah Sife (www.noahsife.com) about the logistics for his event April 18, 2009, and facebook chatting with my mans Rob Smith about his site and international travel, and I'm typing posts!!  I'm even typing this blog from the computer! That NEVER happens...its always on my iPhone..but today is different...anyways!! A few days ago I got an email to come to an event from Latoya Shanell (www.lshanellevent.com) and check it out I did. I went in not knowing what to expect per se, so I made sure I arranged my schedule so that I could attend and then go and handle the things that I needed to do for the rest of the evening. So i go...Burberry Nova Check button down, Ralphy Cable Knit white sweater, Burberry Denim, Burberry Trench and my kicks and I'm ready to go!! It was a good look (the event not me..unless you wanted to offer up a comment or two)!! I encourage people to register with her meetup group (www.mynameisfashion.com) and check it out as it was an excellent resource for individuals looking for photographers, and models, or what to do Friday Night such as Reality Rap Friday at the Funky Buddha 728 W Grand Ave, Chicago, IL. So of course I spread the information to those in attendance to come through and party with PRSVR (www.prsvr.com) and some cats were quite receptive to the brand and all. Next time, I am wearing the Flamingo Chain!! STAT!! lol....But one individual I saw there I am hoping falls through. She actually happens to be sitting in the middle of this picture shown. Her name is Brandy...say hi to Brandy...*cheese* If you know like I know, Brandy needs to come out and enjoy the music of the Great DJ Reality of Universal Records. To refrain from losing the bulk of the support I do receive, I won't say much aside from the fact that Brandy had very nice dimples which was the main thing I noticed...long story short, someone pass the word to the new 'B' to use that chocolate rasberry card she got at the Suite Lounge..*wink* LOL!!!! She likely won't and I'm prepared for such, but aside from that there, she was dope..I believe she said that she was in IT which was interesting to me because its something I can't do...but I bet I can beat her in Thumb Wrestling. Find out LIVE IN THE VIP LOUNGE at Reality Rap. Couldn't fix the red eyes in the picture, and when I fixed mine, it looked odd. Another reason you see aviators when you see me!!

    Feb 18, 2009

Only one thing makes me happier than women...well actually nothing does...LOL...but having shirts for them is a pretty big deal!! Most of the PRSVR tees come in extra large tall and medium tall because that's my size...LOL...nah not really...but as I attempted to make a tee shirt that maybe more women would like, I found out that I like pink more than most women and they just want the regular shirts in smaller sizes as was explained to me after I ordered 100 shirts...LOL...well nonetheless new tees are coming out and will be handed out at REALITY RAP Friday at the Buddha this week Friday February 20th!! Flamingo is still the password!! Come sweat out your new tee shirt this week while we all listen to the best in many genres of music!!

  • Star Struck: David Broom

    Feb 17, 2009

I believe I can speak for all of us over here in Pangea when I say that this was our first star struck encounter.  It was I, Thee Ambassador and 520-570 and we crossed paths with Mr. David Broom at an event thrown by the Silver Room on Milwaukee Ave on the north side of the Chi. Mr. Broom is most notable from his Real World New Orleans fame as well as his gifted musical abilities. He sung a nice ditty with Dave Chappelle on the show's the first season. Visibly star strucken, the three of us questioned if that was really you when you entered the spot and we played it cool once it was confirmed.  I believe we gave you the "nod" and walked out the door.  For our first time meeting a star, I think we handled it well.  Thanks Mr. Broom and keep up the good work.

  • Reality Rap Friday is approaching

    Feb 16, 2009

For those of you that will be in the Chicago area this Friday the 20th, we welcome you to swing by the Funky Buddha Lounge. Come join us as we will be spinning classic and underground hip hop in the VIP room providing a nice soundtrack that will conclude your workweek and drum kick start your weekend!!

  • So young So focused

    Feb 12, 2009

For the first time in a long time, I am excited!! A lot of times you get to see pictures of me (Thee Ambassador) doing the mostest. And at times you see me with The Med or with 520-570. Depending on what phase I was in you would see more of one of them than the other. People often think it's because I like one of them better than then other..LOL...totally not the case because these are my brothers, and my business partners, I just happen to have a dual residency so it depends but I wish we got to all four of us (now playing included) take pictures all at the same place, but it hasn't been the time...but it will be soon. I'm excited because very very very soon, the rulers of Pangea will be all on the same campus!! If you thought work was getting done just wait until this happens...it's not enough Dilla tracks on my laptop to compile a soundtrack for what we are about to create!! So I guess we will have to add in some Madlib....520 let me get some of that Fat Jon!! And Med...pull up that Alchemist mayne!! Welcome to Pangea.

PRSVR Coalition coming as soon as 520 moves!!

  • Ambassadors Blazer

    Feb 11, 2009

This post really needs no words at all...I mean what do you say that hasn't already been said without already being said? This is not a club flyer because you will never see my face on one of those, it's not a solicitation...this is what I'd like to call "Get your weight up"..LOL..no not really, it's really just a challenge to all to try new things within your wardrobe and experiment to at least see how you will look and see some response to it. Now I know that catching up to a level as shown is a bit of a stretch but at least try to shop at places other than the mall. There is nothing wrong with the mall, but other places to shop do exist...or you can do what we do in Pangea...shop for fabric, materials, and components and have it crafted to your frame. The way this blazer occurred was really an accident...before PRSVR left for Paris my tailor Kentel Townsend aka J.C. Leyendecker had a few yards of material he purchased on accident and didn't have anything to do with it so he suggested making a blazer for me. My demeanor is very free so I said let's go...no real desire or outlook or expectation of any sort but it was something new so I said let's go. I went and chose the lining and buttons and such and Leyendecker got busy!! I got fitted probably 9 times!! That may seem excessive to you, but that's normal considering the time it takes to essentially turn a bed sheet worth of fabric into a blazer. Information for Leyendecker is on the image so by all means check out his work and actually be able help create your own piece. This has been like the highest pleasure for me to be able to wear such a piece...I don't think I am the first, but in the world of relevancy, I'm the first!! And after seeing how this one came back, ima be the next as well!! Fits like a glove! I really don't even have to wear it ever again!! Like the promo online is going to be bananas like Gwen Stefani doing a handstand!!

  • History

    Feb 9, 2009

Since I have really been old enough to think for myself, I never
really liked the connotation or meaning of Black History Month. I
embrace it, and relish in the facts, but I'm not a fan or convinced of
it's real meaning. Not because I don't feel it's important because it
is!! I feel this way more so because when I think of Black History, I
think it's meaning is more so things in History that only benefits
those within it like making sure that bubble gets popped when you fry
bologna. Or who created the flavor 'red'. The history of African
Americans, Blacks, Browns, Afro-Americans or other (non-Hispanic)
applied to the History of us all and it should be just that..History.
I mean I'm talking everything from Birth Control to Chrysler 300Cs.
I'm all for Martin and if I had been alive I would have been a rider
for Malcolm. The strength our ancestors showed in those times is
something that we in this 'too cool for school' era aren't built for.
I know people that won't walk to the train in Chicago, let alone take
the train!! LOL...how do you think Harriett got it done? History
shouldn't be seperate, though I encourage the learning. But why stop
on March 1st? I challenge you to let me know something about Jesse B.
Blayton Sr. or Dewey Brown. What's a Buffalo Soldier? The Exodusters?
James Derham or Earl Lloyd? What does W.E.B. stand for? Or better yet,
    what do you stand for?

    Happy History to all!!

  • What's Pangea?

    Feb 5, 2009

    Live from the Pe' Channel

Pangea - the supercontinent that existed during the Paleozoic and Mesozoic eras about 250 million years ago, before the component continents were separated into their current configuration.

What does that have to do with Perseverer, you ask? Well we like to think that it simply represents UNITY. For us the supercontinent symbolizes an underlying equalness in us all, a mentality that should be more prominent and one that should bring us closer to each other. We live in a society where technology has made the world smaller in terms of access, but distant in terms of physically interacting. There's a great deal that can be accomplished moving as one unit towards a goal, unfortunately this is often forgotten or not applied in our communities. It's quite sad how we can reside in a place for years and not know our neighbors.

Perseverer realizes strength in alliances and is open to and respects those who are also striving for greatness regardless of the field or the unique paths they choose.

    Feb 4, 2009

Back in July PRSVR (www.prsvr.com) went on a social networking blitz
where we jumped on and polished up our myspace and facebook accounts,
defined our imeem accounts, dealt with"" YouTube, started a ning
account and even made sure our eBay accounts were up to date with
proper feedback!! In association with the sites that you all soon
after joined or will join after this post, we also joined onto what
they call twitter where we can be reached at twitter.com/prsvr. At
first when we joined, nobody was there and it was something me and The
Med (The Med and I) decided we would just go back to when the time is
right. Fast forward to January and I just witnessed Erykah Badu (whom ?
uestlove calls Fatbelly but he goes by qoolquest and like last week
he ?uest was in Boston and..oh yea) and Jay Electronica had their baby
over the twitter as they had a midwife instead of having the child at
the hospital...because ya know...you can't have phones in the hospital
room. Longer story shorter, twitter is pretty ok. It's too much for me
to really monitor from my iPhone...especially when Wale doesn't
respond back to me but that's another story..LOL...shouts to Wale and
DMV and Mark Ronson. It has proven a pretty worthy tool for what I
need it to do...increase website traffic.
And yes...we do get 3G coverage in Pangea!! Follow PRSVR at twitter.com/prsvr
and see what all the fun is about!! I mean..We will be
there...twitting...or tweeting..updating our life!! We should have had
    that in Paris!!

  • Bentley Event

    Feb 3, 2009

I always enjoy looking back into the archives...especially pictures that existed before I had a blog. This picture comes from the first event PRSVR (www.prsvr.com) had in Chicago on October 24th, 2007 at the Gold Coast Bentley dealership downtown Chicago. It was the day before my birthday and I went to Michigan to pick up the shirts from our screenprinter and I was doing a lot of running around on the day of the event. All I can say is I get it in!! At this event we first unveiled our PRSVR 'www.prsvr.com' shirts and I remember us looking at it and being unsure if we had a hit....well let's just say, we haven't had to fix it because it isn't broken. We met a lot of people that day. Some we still build with, some we wish the best to. Names? We met George Daniels that day, dope relationship still. We met Sven who is in the picture who was over the marketing for the dealership but has since moved on but we are still in steady contact. And a lovely woman by the name of Shanel Cooper-Sykes. Google that...we will keep you posted.

  • Highlighting MRS. Art

    Feb 3, 2009

Perseverer would like to take the time out to highlight an artist who is close to the brand and one who has supported us from Day 0. Melissa Selmon has been putting in work developing her craft for a while now showing true passion and dedication to ones craft. This drive is exactly what Perseverer embodies and is delighted to see it in others. Keep persevering!!

Born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI, Melissa received her B.A. in Art & Design in 2004 from Grand Valley State University. Melissa R. Selmon's artistic focus is the relationship between emotions and children's facial expressions. Most of her inspiration comes from taking photographs of children. Her work reflects the journey of her life through the emotion she conveys in each piece. She works mostly in charcoal and mixed media because she feels that black and white medium deepens the meaning of her work. Her primary inspiration is Diane Wright.

A local artist and former Art Instructor, Diane saw the creative talent that Melissa possessed at a young age and encouraged her to use her gift to glorify the Lord in any way possible. One of her other major influences includes South African Artist William Kentridge. Melissa has been involved in numerous exhibits around the Grand Rapids area.

Melissa desires to start her own gallery in the near future.

For more information please be sure to visit Melissa Selmon here!

  • Innovation

    Feb 2, 2009

"If you have to copy what everyone else is doing, you've got no damn business in this business." - Bill Mitchell

What you are about to lay witness to is innovation mixed with modesty in every aspect you could possibly imagine. As I take off my lab coat to give my time to tell you that in a very short while, you are going to see some polished versions of something you have seen already, and then you'll see some vast tweaks to an already famed product that you have seen. What does this mean? I can't even say yet until we run a few more tests in the lab to ensure that even the most treacherous situations don't stagnate the progress of PRSVR perfecting the Coalition. I do admit and apologize that we have taken quite some time in developing the brand and the business, but more importantly the brand and the product. Working on our international appeal and our domestic acceptance. Research and development, bomb proofing, bob sledding, Dorito eating, and most importantly "popping and locking" are just a few of the things we are doing to ensure that we don't have to sacrifice quality to save money to put towards a marketing campaign that looks like music video. Merely contending with what the competition is doing without reinforcing your own unique strengths is suicide in this business.

  • Tomorrow

    Feb 2, 2009

Very rarely do we take the time to gain attention for the works we do in the community. The reason for this is solely due to when we are doing our philanthropy work, it's coming from a space that doesn't want attention, but wants to make a difference for the moment that exists in that time. One thing I have always enjoyed is taking the time to speak to the kids. I use to teach preschool for about 18 months and that was probably the best thing for me at the time. I remember being young and nobody outside of my moms house really taking that time to speak with me so we try to put forth the effort to let young entrepreneurs shovel the snow, or rake the leaves or even give them advice on anything we may have the ability to speak wisely upon. Not mentors by choice, but in case ever adopted as a role model, we remain ready for the close up.

Chris (yellow hoody) wants to grow up and make video games, and Dave (white hoody) wants to own his own business. If that doesn't get you a few words of wisdom and a PRSVR (www.prsvr.com) t-shirt, then I'd need to reevaluate my purpose.

I want to thank The Med, 520-570, Now Playing, Wilson, Brandi, April, Christina, Stan, Rueben, Darren, the slate listed in the picture, my momma, and God.

And that's my acceptance speech...I think you'll like this batch we cooked up.

So the question for the post here is simply, what color PRSVR tee would you like to see coming forth?

    Jan 26, 2009

Come February 6th, I will be watching Coraline. I am a fan of director Henry Selick and his body of work which includes The Nightmare Before Christmas and James and the Giant Peach. Not only does this movie boast visual arousal but there's an interesting team that has brought this movie to life. The movie is produced by LAIKA which is a community of animators, designers and filmakers and get this.....the owner of LAIKA is Phil Knight which is one of the Co-Founders of Nike. No wonder I was drawn to this movie. ;)

  • Perseverer Uniform(s)

    Jan 23, 2009

Like other occupations who may have a uniform or dress code when conducting business, Perseverer has a similar approach in presentation. In addition to suit standards, perseverer has created a list of must-have for its representatives ranging from personalized business card holders to writing utensils that may look like just that to an outsider, but don't speak too loudly the rep. may have just recorded the entire conversation with a mini recorder...

You may say, "that  sounds like some James Bond $#!@", and we in turn would say, "that's just how we move."

    From the Vault of Pangea

At a press conference a couple lifetimes ago, a few inquisitive fans proposed 520-570 (designer of extraterrestrial shoe horns, hoover craft airbags, hard palate mouth guards when eating cereal, flamingo muzzles and of course the Coalition) with a few questions regarding the brand, the shoe, life and Big League Chew.

  • Peace by Piece

    Jan 22, 2009

We here at Persévérer (PRSVR www.prsvr.com) have been working...how can I say..feverishly to bring you all the future in footwear. The Coalition will do just that. Remember moon boots? Well I do...and as cool as they sound, they weren't. The connotation of such would allude to what I would wear when I hop into my spaceship. Since that's not quite what they brought forth, we here at Persévérer have created the Coalition to allow you to match up with all of the different variations of your life. In the picture shown, is one of the most important pieces of our Coalition shoe that will be launching in 2009. In the picture is the gum sole which will be featured on our Coalition Low and Mid models. With the creation of the Coalition from PRSVR, we here at Persévérer have taken the cobbler process step by step by piece by piece by day by night to bring you the best product possible. Best in the regards of quality, creative process, design, materials, components, and manufacturing to bring forth an exceptional looking product that is comfortable and built to last. It's good to see progress says the fox. Coalition coming soon...need we say more?

  • It's in the office space

    Jan 21, 2009

An office space should be welcoming, open, and reflective of a company's vision without being overpowering. The images above are courtesy of www.thecoolhunter.net featuring the lobby of All Capitol, an investment group in Amsterdam displaying the design sensibilities of local creative groups i29 and Eckhardt en Leeuwenstein.

We absolutely love what they have done to the space. The accompanying white walls and ceiling gives it just enough visual breathing room which really makes the design that much more appealing.  When the time comes to build our office from the ground up it will definitely reflect Perseverer's design sense, as well as fashion and the youthful creative energy that we embody.

  • Webisodes...Behind the Scenes

    Jan 19, 2009

Saturday was a rare occasion where Voltron aka Perseverer formed together to create a few new webisodes. In the midst of schedules, workload and life we were able to schedule a date to shoot this past weekend at the office. There's a great deal that can be accomplish when everyone is focused on one goal, it also helps that we enjoy the work that we do, which is a plus/must. Once again we have created some more quality footage despite the fact that no one had more than 4 hours of winks going into the set.

The project(s) are currently being edited and will be ready for your eyes very soon, so keep checking the journal!!

Under the clutter in the second photo lies a pool table, which acts at times as a desk, dining table and on some occasions an ironing board...

  • CES Highlights

    Jan 16, 2009

I think as a collective we here at PRSVR have a love and interest in electronics. If not solely for wanting to have the latest greatest, then for the possessed innovation. So with this post it's clearly a full reflection...at least that's what I'm going to say it is. At the Consumer Electronic Show that took place in Vegas recently showed this as a top showing for the trade event. This is a bond like cell phone that is built directly into a watch. Again...innovation. I don't think I will be talking into my wrist..especially since I can't even figure out where the mic is for the Bluetooth in my car!! But leaps and bounds nonetheless. Check out the highlights from the show when you can!!
Ambassador can now be seen in Ninja mode.

All I can say is wait until you see him hit!!! They won't like us once the brain starts working...but you will!

  • Well Don't

    Jan 15, 2009

I will gladly pay you tomorrow for a hamburger today. This is a huge note to the readers of the www.prsvr.com family. First off, don't ever try to eat a hamburger this big, but most importantly, if you don't have it, don't act like you do. Not because I don't like seeing you overdo it when I'm out, but because you pay for it sooner than later. Watch over your credit situations and keep on top of what you are ABLE to do, instead of what someone is expecting of you. We don't buy much of anything if we can't pay for it 10 times...just a suggestion.

Black and white, like a fat panda!!!!
This is a pic of me with one of the coolest reps in my favorite sneaker boutique Livestock Toronto!! This is by far the best spot for finding the best products in streetwear without incurring the hike up in price. We hit up Toronto often and this is typically the first spot we hit once we have checked into the hotel!! As always, Toronto is literally my second home...well I guess third because I live in Chicago but the love in Toronto is real. If you haven't been, definitely get there!! Just try to avoid winter!! Yiiikes!! Peace to Andrew over there as well!! You must have taken the day off...

  • Scribe to Paris

    Jan 9, 2009

Dear Paris (or whomever opens your mail)
We have been back state side for some time now but we have far from forgotten about you. The good times...the bad times...the times we didn't know what time it was. Ahhhhh...and jambone. The reason for my letter was to notify you that we would be back soon. Perhaps not in the physical form as soon as we would like, but we will definitely have a presence in your beautiful city. We left a few things at Charles de Galle at the EasyJet terminal...can you overnight that to Pangea? Courtesy of Thee Ambassador.
    Merci

The next time you see these faces in Clingancourt, we will be there to pick up a check!! Proppa

  • 80/20 rule

    Jan 9, 2009

Not that 80/20...LOL. 80% of looking good is feeling good. So from my point of view I got at least a B...that other 20 must be lost in translation...or the ozone..or...that's all I got. The moral of it all is increase your outlook of self in 09 and forever...and start chopping wood...the world would be a better place!! Well...I mean..only you can prevent forest fires.

  • Wrapping Paper or WallPaper?

    Dec 17, 2008

Ahh yes the chore of gift wrapping...

This holiday season we've decided to take a little of the pain out of wrapping gifts with our own logo monogrammed wrapping paper!! Sitting here wrapping gifts with snowmen and obese guys in boots just doesn't cut it, so we decided to play around with the idea of personalizing wrapping paper.  Even though it will eventually be ripped up by an anxious child or child at heart, it's still fun to see!!

Who knows this might even become wallpaper for the office :)

  • Pardon my French

    Nov 5, 2008

Ok we've been back in the States not even an entire day and we're already wanting to go back to Paris. We truly didn't know what to expect and how we would be accepted in France and any assumptions that we may have had prior were the total opposite. (Especially to three young brothas who aren't native to the lanuguage) Stereotypes were imediately shattered with real life experiences that offered us the urge to want to return.

For the most part Paris was lovely and the people we met in our travels were even better. We thank those people deeply who showed us love (you know who you are) we will be back, it's just a matter of time.

THANK YOU PARIS for the memories that we wont soon forget...

  • Funky Buddha 10/17/08

    Oct 24, 2008

    Tuesday, October 14th 2008

11:34am: (Rene from Funky Buddha)- Hello? Grant?
(DJ)- [Fresh from drinking a highly caffeinated workout supplement and parked outside the gym] Hey, hows it going?
(R)- Just returning your call and letting you know that we are very interested in working with Perseverer and we would like to do something very soon!
(DJ)- That's wonderful! [Shaking in my bones from supplements and good news] How soon is soon?!
(R)- We were thinking this Friday.  How's that sound?
(DJ)- Dang Rene! Your breaking my balls! [Thats what I wanted to say] That sounds very good! [THIS is what I REALLY said]
11:35am: (R)- Sounds good Grant! See you friday! Grant you there?
                   (DJ)- Oh Boy....

And that's how it went. The conversation was only a minute in length but yet such a milestone for Perseverer.  The rest as they say is history and with the short time we had to prepare physically, I think we did a pretty good job. Judge for yourself...

  • Perseverer's French Connection

    Oct 22, 2008

Perseverer will be flying to London and eventually making our way to Paris for the Silmo Optical Show. This trip will be our first international trip that we will make as a collective unit and also the first big trip that we can document in our blog(s)!! Which may or may not be a good thing lol. This should be a very interesting trip, aside from the fact that we are in Paris, but because we know about 5 french words between the three of us...

Be sure to check out the Pangean Journal and our personal blogs for a documented journal of our international travels.

  • I can only give you CRUMBS!

    Sept 13, 2008

The inspiration for "CRUMBS" narrated by Tekh Togo came from my talking with Tekh about doing some kind of collaboration that would showcase his talents as a musician and our talents as clothiers of life and space. He was already working on something musically and he proposed the idea of Perseverer actually being the host of the unnamed project and with that being said, the flood gates of creativity opened.

I chose the title "CRUMBS" to represent the "steps" we (Perseverer and Tekh) are taking in accomplishing our visions. The loaf of bread is the overall vision but you have to take off pieces in a strategic manner to deplete the whole loaf eventually. Mission accomplished. This project was also my selfish way to hear Rob Cucci again.

    I love you, ROB

  • BACK AT THE LABBA...

    Sept 13, 2008

I love going to the studio. I'm not a musician at this point in my life but I have been exposed to the studio aesthetic through association. This time, me and Brandon made it to Tekh's session at CRC in Chicago and he was wrapping up the final pieces of the CRUMBS portion of ROBOTIC MEDIA. I only got to hear several of the tracks but that's all I took for the night. I was moved emotionally and creatively. I love going to the studio.

  • Dunk Xchange

    Sept 10, 2008

Its not often I get excited about another companies event..I mean we have been to countless events and parties, and have thrown several legendary events where everything lined up and was just perfect. Been around the world and ah yi yi. This is something to truly be excited for. This is a true testament to witnessing someones growth as the DunkXchange has gone from an underground secret and has blossomed into a mainstream feat that still holds its integrity and true meaning behind it. I want to personally thank Oscar out in Chicago and of sneakerfiles.com, as well as Curtis and the whole DunkXchange organization for accepting us into their vision and allowing us to be a part. Anytime you see us allowing the Pe to be on someone else's flier, just know that we are in great company as we wouldn't have it any other way. We'll be there with our ambiance, our movement, and our vision. Come by to get the pre-release for Pangea Presents: Crumbs, t-shirts, updates, and watch History happen twice on September 13th, 2008 at The Wild Hare....I promise it'll be more fun than Weekend at Bernies Part Deux!!

  • Off to see the Wizard

    July 21, 2008
Well, not really. The team will be off to the compass show in Vegas this Sunday, which gives us a night to prepare (haha) for the show dates, which are Monday and Tuesday. Trade shows usually consist of a lot of walkin', talkin', networkin', name droppin', business card trades, picture takin and swag collectin', not a bad start to a work week especially one in Vegas!!! Stay tuned for pics from the trip.

  • Whats up with the flamingo, you ask?

    June 8, 2008

We have received a number of questions regarding the pink bird aka the flamingo. The flamingo has surfaced in our advertisements, has been the theme of a few events and has shown itself in our apparel and accessories. Why?

The flamingo is representative of the brand Perseverer in that as a species it exudes elegance, mystique, and an undeniable flyness(play with ya puns) with the ability to stand upright on half of its foundation. Perseverer and all of its offerings is able to persevere solely with anyone of those.

Looking into the wild there are a number of species that were designed to blend in, for instance the tiger a beautiful expert killer who relies on its stripes as camouflage in the grassy plains, until it's ready to be seen. There is a possibility that the tiger can go without notice until it's too late.

Now in a world where more and more of the market is sleeping I think it's best to always stand out, at any glance you never miss a flamingo...

  • Project Art

    June 7, 2008

Perseverer would like to thank PLS Magazine www.plsmag.com for their hospitality and an ill event a few weeks ago. Project art was an event that truly created an environment where we felt welcomed...and oh yea the music was ill, which is always a plus!

Live art, energetic dj sets and a diverse crowd what more do you need.
