Dilla Changed My Life

August 10, 2009

And I mean that..from the bottom of my creative soul. I'm not sure if people understand me when I speak about how much Dilla meant to my progression as a man and as a business man and just as to how I carry out my tasks in life. Not to say that I pattern myself after Dilla because dude was like perfections sound track so even when it was flawed, it was still perfect..like I'm right even when I'm wrong. Dilla was a producer that AALLLLLLLWWWWAAAAYS was working!! If you ask any other producer that he was close to be it Pete Rock, DJ Premier, or a rapper be it Busta Rhymes, Q-Tip, or whoever you can find to ask, Dilla was aalllwwwways working to perfect his craft and the purpose was always just to be the best!! Its documented that Dilla very rarely ever cared about the accolades of the art he created..but make all checks out to Pay Jay because if he had done the work, you gots to Pay Jay. Its stories of a young Pharrell and young Mos Def being in the studio during the Tribe Called Quest days just hanging out at the studio while Dilla was in the building..dude was a genius and his influence STILL touches people all over the world!
When I say I love Dilla, I mean it..I don't do it to be cool, or to fit in, or be different, but a lot of the work that I have done as Thee Ambassador was crafted while Dilla played as the soundtrack to what I do in my life. So even in the Land of Pangea, if you don't really listen to Dilla, its a 97% chance Dilla changed your life to because the music was so influential to what I do. My love for the Range Rover was a seed planted from Dilla. But at the same time, he liked the Escalade (Dillalade) and I'm not a Cadillac fan AT ALL!! lol..but he can pass on that one..I mean he made the beat for "Find a Way" by Tribe Called Quest..and 'Stressed Out'..and 'Got til Its Gone' by Janet Jackson! The catalog is crazy from Dilla. Since I was never able to really meet him or anything, you can only see his influence in the things we do here at Pangea Estates ie PRSVR. And thats honest to life..I don't know where I would be had he not crafted so many hits for Common, De La Soul, Erykah Badu, Slum Village, Himself, The Steve Spacek tracks, Tribe Called Quest and a host of other artists. I could never be more thankful and once I am able, I would be remisced if I was to proceed to get money and not try to make some sort of contribution to his family, or his estate as I would want for the same to be done for me if I was able to touch lives with the work I left it with. My favorite tracks from Dilla? Too many to decide, BUT I can name a few that you the reader should make yourself familiar with.

Songs to check for: Circulate w/ Steve Spacek (he flipped the circulate beat before Cannon did for Jeezy..both great tracks though) Ill Pictures w/ Tekh Togo, Stressed Out w/ A Tribe Called Quest, Climax w/Slum Village, What Love is w/ Slum Village, Players w/Slum Village, The Clearing w/ Willie the Kid, Pass the Torch w/ Busta Rhymes (on every Busta Rhymes album Dilla had at least one track he produced except the latest Busta album) and a host of other tracks..too many to name, but ALL DOPE!! I will admit that some beats exist that weren't the best ever, but any beat that ever got people actually rapping over it, those were DOPE!! All of them..

Instrumentals to listen to: 520-570's fave and definitely in my top 3 as it changes often is The Waves off of the Donuts project Dilla put out. Definitely just sit and listen to that song, but more so the whole project. Maybe we can discuss it over tea one day..

Peace to Baatin, and Peace to Dilla..love you both. Classics are probably being recrafted right now as I type this! Love from PRSVR

Ambassador OUT!!
